Welcome to the digital archive of Mare Regula, a research-driven, speculative design project that unearths the hidden “micro-physics of power” operating within the Haenyeo (women divers) community of Jeju Island.

Moving beyond the widely romanticized domestic and international narratives of an eco-feminist, frictionless sisterhood, Mare Regula addresses the intricate internal hierarchies and strict disciplinary mechanisms that have sustained this seafaring collective for generations. Grounded in four months of intensive ethnographic immersion in the coastal village of Hado-ri, this platform serves as an exhibition space for the material artifacts and cinematic narratives born from that collaborative friction.
